The desert at Anholt is a large protected part of the island. 300-400 different types of lichen grow in the desert. In spite of the name “Ørkenen” (the desert) you will find a mix of moor areas, birch grove, stone banks, dunes and plains.

Anholt has a fine population of seals, which breeds at the protected area Totten at the eastern part of Anholt. Due to the breeding season there is no access to the area, but you will have a great view from the lighthouse.

The lighthouse at Anholt is one of the earliest in the country before 1561. The lighthouse was placed at the eastern part of the island where the dangerous reef, Knoben, shoots out to the east. It was part of the marked sailing route from Skagen, Anholt, Kullen to Copenhagen.
